In 2007, EDF Energies Nouvelles moved into the biofuels, and biogas markets. The Group is simultaneously pursuing the development of biomass projects harnessing combustion and gasification technologies.

BIOMASS: Expansion in a niche

EDF Energies Nouvelles has developed a biomass project in Spain involving the use of dried olive pulp as fuel.
A plant has been built in Lucena in Andalusia. The facility has an installed capacity of 26 MW. It is able to process 180,000 tons of olive pulp annually.
Two other biomass projects are under development, also in Andalusia. They use gasification and combustion techniques.

  BIOFUELS: partnership with a specialist
In 2007, EDF Energies Nouvelles signed a preliminary agreement to acquire a shareholding of 25% in Alcofinance, a specialist in the production and the distribution of ethanol-fuel. A plant with 150,000 m3 in annual capacity is under construction in Ghent in Belgium. It is due to enter service in 2008.

BIOGAS: acquisition of a strategic shareholding

In 2007, EDF Energies Nouvelles acquired a majority shareholding in Belgian company Verdesis.
The Group aims to generate green electricity from landfill and treatment facilities by harnessing innovative technology in this field.
